Darrell Cook, Superintendent of Bighorn Canyon National Recreation Area and Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument has announced his retirement from the National Park Service effective June 2, 2008. In his career Cook has served at Mount Rushmore National Memorial, North Cascades National Park, Theodore Roosevelt National Park, Timpanogos Cave National Monument, Badlands National Park, Crater Lake National Park, Grand Canyon National Park, Lake Roosevelt National Recreation Area, and Bighorn Canyon National Recreation Area/ Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument. In addition, he also served as the Deputy Superintendent of Grand Teton National Park and a stint as the Deputy Regional Director in Denver.

Cook retires after serving 39 years 9 months in federal service, which includes serving with the Marine Corps including a tour of duty in Vietnam. Mr. Cook stated, "I am looking forward to retirement and spending time with family and pursuing other activities, which include building a house and some traveling."

He and his wife Sandi are planning on staying in Montana during retirement..
