New Superintendent Little Bighorn Battlefield
January 2009
Acting Superintendent James Charles at Little
Bighorn Battlefield National Monument (LIBI) has informed me that the
Denver Regional Office appointed Ms. Kate Hammond as new superintendent to
manage the Monument. Her administration is effective January 2009. Ms. Hammond
has an extensive and varied background with the NPS which includes working with
the Cheyenne and Arapaho tribes to develop the first general management plan for
the Washita Battlefield National Historic Site in Oklahoma.
On behalf of the Friends board, we are excited to welcome Ms. Hammond to one of
the premiere battlefields in our great country. We look forward to working with
her and the National Park Service to help make the battlefield even better.
We also wish to thank James Charles for the great job he did while managing LIBI
these past six months. We wish him the best of luck as his career with the NPS
continues.
We’ll provide more news regarding Ms. Hammond and the direction she takes the
battlefield in our newsletters, online, and via emails to Friends members. Meantime,
please follow link (to right) for more information regarding Ms.
Hammond.
We wish Ms. Hammond the best of luck.
